NOCO
Well, I moved to Northern Colorado
just go.
In my quest to live and travel internationally, I quit my job in search of something more fulfilling and mobile. I seriously thought about teaching abroad, even had two international job offers, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. Teaching is just not a true passion of mine. I always envisioned a medical/commercial lab as my one and only path. I also didn’t want to completely feel like I threw away my degree in Microbiology. Then it finally dawned on me: Beer. Beer has been around since the beginning of time (talk about job security), it is worldwide, and it brings people together. ALSO, the fermentation process to make beer IS Microbiology! Why had I not thought of this sooner!? I have a college friend who works at a major brewery in their micro department, but I never thought of myself in a brewery until now. I enrolled in a continuing education class at Oregon State focused on Microbiology for beer analysis and began applying to breweries. About a week after I came home from my extended Oregon trip, I got a job at one of the largest craft breweries in Oklahoma with international orders! I am very thankful for that opportunity, and wish I was able to learn more about the brewing process from some very knowledgeable people that worked there, but I got the opportunity to work for one of the world’s largest breweries. There’s no way I could pass this blessing up. So I packed my things and headed out to their Colorado location. This new job is continuously opening my eyes to new things in the industry as well as new experiences living in the mountains. Since Covid really put a damper on international travel, I’ll share my new adventures around Colorado.
