Packing

The goal is always to pack as light as possible; the more items you can fit in your carry on, the better. I always stuff my carry on (9"x14"x22") and personal item (9"x10"x17") (large tote or backpack) with hopefully everything I need so that I don't have to check a bag. However, if I plan on buying a lot of  souvenirs, then I'll also bring an empty bag or check a nonfull bag.

Tips for packing:

  • Keep in mind where you're traveling. Some destinations may require items others don't. ex. religious temples/churches in Asia, Vatican City, Greece may require shoulders and legs be completely covered; some places may need mosquito hats; you may need an International driver's license; etc. Do a bit of research to help prepare you for the exact travel destination
  • Wrap glass bottles/alcohol with clothes to help cushion them during travel
  • Pack undies in ziplock bag and squeeze the air out. It helps compress them and keep them clean
  • If you stay in an Air BnB, washing clothes is easy, so you can pack less for longer trips
  • If bringing boots, a coat, large items, wear them on the plane if you can. It takes up less room in your luggage so you can pack other necessities.
